About Housing Authority of Skagit County

The Housing Authority of Skagit County provides, facilitates, and finances housing for a diverse population of low-income and medium-income residents of Skagit County and San Juan County. It serves agricultural workers, low-income and medium-income individuals and families, elderly and non-elderly individuals with disabilities, homeless veterans and elderly homeowners requiring weatherization of their homes. Funding has been provided for the various programs through HUD and the Section 8 program, USDA Rural Development, Low Income Housing Tax Credits, and other sources.

The Housing Authority administers 625 Housing Choice Vouchers within Skagit and San Juan Counties. These vouchers are used to subsidize program participants' lease payments for privately owned apartments and houses located within the Housing Authority's service area. The waiting list is still open and applications can be submitted at the office in Burlington. Agricultural workers can also submit applications for the USDA subsidized apartments and Low Income Housing Tax Credit projects.

The Housing Authority owns and/or manages Channel Cove in La Conner, Burlington Terrace Apartments and Raspberry Ridge I & II Apartments in Burlington, and La Paloma Apartments, Mount Baker Meadows and President Apartments in Mount Vernon. The President Apartments are in the initial stages of Historical Preservation and are included in the National Register of Historic Places.

- Develop problem solving partnerships with HUD, USDA Rural Development, local governments, the private sector, and the community
- Improve and/or facilitate, participate in, and initiate programs that offer opportunities for skills development, educational training, the possibility of home ownership and other programs
